VALENTINES HASH SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1997 RUN NUMBER 995 VENUE: CORPORATE PARK ON RICHMOND @ HAYES HARES: “BALD EAGLE” “LAZY WORM” “SMELLY TRENCH” “VICAR LICKER” & “GREAT KAHUNA”   The hares were many, the shiggy . . . shoe sucking, insects . . . blood sucking and many of the hounds infected with hoof and mouth and a sundry of diseases.  Sunday’s run began out in West Houston and actually, in this scribe’s mind, was like Hashing in the old country.  Excellent trail with wonderful shiggy, just long enough to build a good thirst, and groceries beyond reproach, but most important, social time that extended way late into the dark.  Ahhh, the pleasure of it all.

The trail started in some business park, just beyond the Richmond and Hayes roads and headed straight into mud sucking shiggy.  The trail started in a Northwesterly direction, then headed in a Southeasterly direction and made a huge loop.  (Actually, part of this trail had been previous used and abused by “Mighty Mouse” and “Horny Dog” in a Space City H3 run two weeks earlier.)  Not having Hash in a couple of weeks and having sub-level fuel cells, I found myself gasping for air as the mud kept attempted to suck my lower extremities into a deep black hole.   However,  in order to survive, I had to draw on that strength that only comes from “Mighty Mouse”.

Continuing in a Northwesterly direction, I encountered and joined forces with the lovely I Scream who was also as lost as a blue goose.  Being familiar with the area, we headed to Westheimer, turned West, then South on Old Westheimer Road and avoided the heavily laden poison ivy fields surrounding Andreau Airport.  These are the times when one is fortunate to have experienced many years negotiating trails.   Luck was with us and at that point “I Scream” and I appeared to be ahead of the pack.  As we looked for trail we were soon joined by “Grind Slut”, “PeePee”, and shortly by “Estrus”.  Trail was quickly located heading back towards the start of the run.  Proceeding East, we were soon also joined by several other Hashers who had been thrashing about in the poison ivy fields.  On Home to the same place the run started where a Great Circle up was held, only to be surpassed by an excellent venue of chicken curry and other spicy delights.  Ahhhhhh!

And the Hash continued at Ron’s Pub West till the wee hours.   You just can’t get enough.  Another one bites the dusk.  On On to the 1,000th.
