It was appropriate on 10/10/10 that the hares paid homage to Douglas Adams and his tome of books by having Bass Ale (“Goodbye and Thanks for all the Fish”) after the run.  It would also have been right on point if the run was 4.2 miles (42 is the meaning of life), but thanks to the hares, the run was a little longer, which was great, given how beautiful the weather was.

The run started out in Cole Creek Park on Langfield Road, which for this hound was perfect in that I could walk to the start of the run.  The hares drew straws and Duke of Puke, Tender Vittles, and Rancid Asshole drew the short straws so they live hared the run.  The hares took off down Langfield, taking a left onto Cole Creek Drive.  Trail took a left over Cole Creek on a wooden walking bridge, then continued down the street until it took a right on Pine Vista, running in front of PP, Salt Water Taffy, and Holden’s house.  Too bad these hashers couldn’t do the run.  Trail then took a left behind the house at the end, went into an ephemeral stream then back out to the left into a wide open field.

Trail continued through the field, along the railroad tracks, ultimately taking a left on West Little York Road.  This hound saw several front runners coming out of a big do loop on the left, so was happy with the shortcut that paid off!  Hounds took a left on Bingle, crossed the street at some point, and eventually ended up on Stone Brook Lane running through a nice, gentile neighborhood.  Trail wound through the neighborhood until it got to some retention ponds and took a right through the field around the ponds.  True trail went across the bayou at a low point, but many hounds decided it would be more fun to cross over a pipeline that straddled the bayou.

However, the hounds were rewarded when they crossed the bayou because there was the beer check!  Woo Hoo!  Rancid Asshole was happily handing out cold beer from the back of his car.  This was also the point of the Turkey/Eagle Split.  The hounds who took the Turkey Trail followed the bayou, and after crossing Fairbanks North Houston Road, found the end about a half mile down on the right after the trailer park.

There were three trails laid that day by the hares; a walkers trail of about 3.5 miles, a Turkey trail of 4.8 miles (true trail) and an Eagle trail of 5.7 miles (true trail).  The weather was perfect, so a longish trail was in perfect keeping with a perfect day.

The beer was cold, Ass Wipe’s homemade snacks were excellent, the circle was fun, and a good time was had by all.  The On On On was at The Brick House Tavern on 290, a fitting end to a great day.

Thanks hares!
