Hangover Hash

Hangover Hash

01/01/11

Run Number:  1714

Hare:  PP

Number of Hounds:  28

Trail length:  About 5 miles

PP stepped up at the last minute to hare the New Year’s Day Hangover Hash, erectile and as always, medic PP laid a great trail on the fly.

The pack met at 3:00 p.m. off of West Little York just to the East of Highway 290.  PP took off at 3:30 p.m., and the pack barely gave him a 10 minute head start.

Trail went behind the parking lot through Cy-Fair Park, crossing Gessner and Windfern in some empty fields before it ended up at White Oak Bayou.  Alright!  A run along the bayou!

Not completely, as we were to find out.  Trail continued eastward in and out of the neighborhoods finding every bit of forest, mobile home park, and water crossings that PP could find.  We went through some flood plains that have been run in so many ways recently, yet PP found a way to run it in some fairly new directions.

The end of the trail required crossing the bayou either on a pipeline crossing, or straight across the bayou itself.  Given that I ran trail with Pump Me and her son, we chose to cross the bayou itself with Pump Me carrying her son on her back, and me carrying the stroller across the bayou.  The water was barely shin deep at that point.  Who says bayou crossings aren’t stroller friendly?

At the end of the run, PP had some awesome black-eyed peas for everyone to eat and of course, cold beer.  Heartache brought some Bushmills 10 year old Single Malt Irish Whisky and some Chocolate Stout (sweet!) to share with all of us.  Thanks guys!

Circle began with a tribute to Slick Fifty, who had recently passed away.  Pump Me and Roll Model were brought into the circle since they were wearing shirts with Slick Fifty’s name on it from a Space City Hash she had hared years ago.  Thanks for honoring Slick this way!

So the hash started the new year on a great note — a good run, cold beer, good food, and some generous hashers with tasty food and fine whisky.

On On to 2011 and more incredible trails!
