Roy Orifice’s Bear Creek Hash

28-NOV-10

Roy Orifice Bear Creek Park Hash

Hare: Roy Orifice

Hounds: 36, ailment including one visitor

New Boots: none

With our tummies full of turkey, what better way to work it off than a Sunday afternoon hash?  Roy Orifice decided to start the hash at an early 2:00 pm on this brisk Sunday afternoon. Since it was a Thanksgiving weekend with many hashers traveling, the pack was a little scarce.  Horsefli Drivebi honored us with cans of beer left over from a cyco-hash the day before. It was nice and cold! Thanks for the surprise treat!

As a single hare, Roy forgot to get bags in the car before chalk talk, but it all worked out. Roy Orifice gave chalk talk and had some marks that were not usual for the Houston Hash. He decided that there would be no backchecks. He would have flour marks and falses. When you found a false, you would have to go back and find the right path off the trail.  To most of us, then, his falses WERE backchecks.

The pack took off and after a quick road crossing we made our way through a barb wire fence. Uneven terrain greeted us with every step.   Small stumps of sprawlings challenged our cadence as we encountered some truck/4 wheeler paths that had dug small tire ditches when the earth was soft. That is where my ankle gave way. Continuing on the path, I was able to catch up with Dickrectionally Challenged and EZ Fag. There were occasional fields of tall grass after bouts of shiggy. At one particular field, we were able to grab the tail of Pull the Plug.  Most of the terrain was through somewhat shiggy areas, with vines, some thorns, and lots of trees.  Many times the vines caught our ankles and made a trip. Dickrectionally Challenged laid claim to a few of these vines as his own personal challenge. The vines won and he lost. Boom- down he went.  There were a few downed trees to crawl over, and then there were some to crawl under. I found an ant pile nested in one of them. Ouch!

Most of the trail was dry; we did not have to get our feet wet.   Towards the end of the trail, the path started to look very familiar. It seemed as if we had been on this trail in the recent past.  Oh yes, it was portions of the same trail that Roy, Grind Slut and I laid almost a year ago. After much shiggy, we found the back of a subdivision, and knew we must be close to the end.  Roy Orifice’s house was a welcome sight. His back yard opens up the shiggy area we had just run through. Roy added a water garden and an elevated deck since the last time we ended at his house. I am sure was intended just for the hash!

In Roy Orifice style, there was food at the end. Chicken and other yummy foods were offered. The beer was yellow can beer, but hashers are happy for any and all kinds of beer.

After a car back or two, the number of hashers left for circle dwindled. The hare was called in for various accusations.  Spin Cycle and Old Faithful were called in for 50 and 150 runs respectively.  No one was named, they just did not deserve it. A couple of hashers came in very late from the rest of the pack. That was pretty amazing, since Roy had plops of flour every five feet!

Circle closed with the traditional Swing Low. Although there were cans of beer left, the on-on-on was announced that it was going to be at Watson’s Pub.

On-on to next week’s run.
